Today was the most beautiful day of 2009 thus far here in Arkansas. Temperatures were in the 80's, the sun was shining bright, no rain (first time in a week) and light winds. A perfect day to work outdoors. And boy did I work outside today. Right now my body is making me pay for it. Legs and back aches, and my allergies, oh God I am now eating Benadryl's, but it was worth it.
I actually managed to get 6 rose bushes planted, 1 hydrangea bush and 2 wisteria vines planted as well. Plus I got 2 zucchini, 3 cucumbers, 6 tomato plants, and about 20 various pepper plants all planted.
I know that wisteria vines have to have something heavy and sturdy to grow on and climb along and around. I had nothing. Although now they are barely one foot tall I know they grow fairly fast. Now mind you what with being all frugal and a money miser of late I didn't want to go and purchase anything for this. So I got creative with my thinking. I took a look around the yard and the house and this is what I came up with.
It's made from scraps of things I found around the house. The base of it Jerry had built from scrap lumber and made it to hold our rakes, hoe, and shovels. The top of the house is made from 2 plantation window shutters which covered one of our windows in our bedroom. We had removed them to put in a window air conditioner. The birdhouse I had purchased at Hobby Lobby and is one of many I have/had in my kitchen. The sign I found a couple of years ago at a junk sale and had tossed aside till I could figure out what I wanted to do with it. I repainted the sign in colors I liked to match the house today. When Jerry came in this evening from work he nailed it all together for me and we sat it over the tops of the two wisteria vines.
I think it's darling even if it's all homemade and thrown together.
Live each day as if it were your last,

SO clever and so cute ...I want a birdhouse like that too!
I think it's even more special because it IS homemade. Lucky birds.
That is adorable! I cannot believe how much work you got done yesterday!
It's great! You are so creative! I used an old porch railing to let my wistera grow on! Dont you just love all this recycling going on here??
If I did as much yard work as you did, I don't think I'd be able to move the next day!
The wistera climber you made is perfect! It's awesome to put something together and be so happy with it!
That is so cute. I love bird houses. I have to comment on your last post/cartoon too..I am laughing so hard.
