Simply Amazing Weekend

What a gorgeous weekend we had here at our house.  I almost hate telling everyone how beautiful the weather was, well not that much.......Our temps was in the 60's and it was perfect weather to grill out, do yard work and tackle some projects.  Saturday in between yard work and cleaning house yes I still cleaned house even though it was gorgeous out I took the time to do a couple of DIY projects for my grand children.  You see their mother and father just added on to their house giving both children a room of their very own, not to mention making them larger as well.  A few weeks ago I was at Hobby Lobby (my most favorite store on this earth) shopping with College Princess and picked up a couple of wooden plaques there and over at Lowe's I picked up some hooks that happened to be on sale.  So I decided to make both my grand babies two nice hooks for each of them.  One each for backpacks and one each for their coats or jackets.

Grand Son wants his new room decorated in John Deere tractors.  What little boy wouldn't love a room filled with all things John Deere?  He has grown up riding tractors with one of his great grandpa's (my dad) and loves all things JD.  So to make his plaque I found a JD logo online.  My first thought was to print it out and then I realized I was out of ink, both black and colored.  At that point I thought it pretty well hopeless since I absolutely can't freehand draw at all.  Then it was like a light bulb went off!  I remembered another blogger who had the same problem.  So I done what they had done.  I taped a piece of copy paper to my computer monitor and traced the image onto it.  In the meantime College Princess had painted all four plaques the right colors for me.  Naturally Grand Son's was the John Deere green.  Once the paint dried I placed my paper onto the front of the wood and I had no carbon paper so instead I used a sharp tool to poke holes through the paper and leave me an outline of the deer image on the wood.  Then I simply painted it in yellow and then took some yellow narrow cording I already had on hand and made the frame around the deer.  Screwed on the hooks and was finished.  Here's the final product (only of course there were two of them.

Total cost for these two plaques:  $1.98 for the wood plaques .50 cents for the two hooks = $2.48 for both.

Grand Daughter wants her room decorated in Butterflies and all things pink and girly.  For her wood plaque hooks the cost was nothing.  I had everything already on hand for both of them.  College Princess had two heart shaped wood plaques with with the wood pegs already in place.  I simply had her paint them both pink and then hot glued some colored stones to them.  Easy peasy.  Here's the finished product.

Now both of my babies have something special make from their Nana to hang in their new rooms.  It maybe took me a total of one hour or little more to get all four of them done.  Princess and I both had a fun time doing a craft project together.
