Sweet Ladies in Blog Land, I Need Your HELP!!!

I've felt very under the weather for the last week or so and because of that and having some minor surgery today I won't be doing any home projects for the next week or so. Oh how I hate that and know that I will be going through withdrawal! Like a druggie I need my fix of DIY around here. So tonight while looped up on pain meds I've been looking around the web for inspiration for what I can be doing when I get to feeling better. Now I need your help you wonderful sweet ladies who I call friends. I am calling upon your expertise, your thoughts and your guidance. Help me do some choosing of colors, bedding, and headboards. I have narrowed the colors down for you some. As well as the bedding and headboards. But I still need your loving input. This will be the first major redo that I've ever done. Shocking but true.

The first major redecorating around here will be our master bedroom. Our bedroom was actually the den and has a drop down floor and two bi-fold door ways. Right now one of the doors is covered up, I placed the china cabinet in the dining room in front of it. On the bedroom side it has a ceiling to floor curtain over it. We aren't really sure if we want to permanently close it off or not. What do you think?

For three years now I've lived with nothing but a concrete floor, because the laminate wood flooring was ruined by former dogs. If you catch my meaning. So it had to be ripped out. It's never been in our budget to do the floors yet and honestly I could never decide what I wanted. Since it was the family den it also has no closet. Trucker built a makeshift closet in front of the door leading outside. It's ugly but works. I don't even have any sort of covering over it. Just the bare boards and clothing hanging there for the world to see. I would show pictures but truthfully I am ashamed of this room right now. The walls are all paneled in the 70's dark paneling. The good points to this room? It is large and measures 20x25. It has three nice size windows that have the plantation shutters. This I really really love. The ceilings are also tall around 10 ft. So all in all the room has good bones, so to speak.

Ok now I've filled you in on how it has potential. Our plans is to take the backdoor off and build a huge walk in closet onto the room. The backdoor leads out onto a concrete porch and we never use it because we have a window unit air conditioner in our bedroom ( no way we can do without it, after all hot flashes are terrible) which is right beside the porch. It's way to noisy to sit there and relax. We are considering building our bedroom floor upwards and making it the same level as the rest of the house. I think I've made my mind up to put down laminate wood floors again as well. Or we've even thought of staining or painting the concrete. Help here please too?

Now for the good stuff. Here's some pictures I want to use for inspiration for our room. So tell me what you lovely ladies think please. First off let me say that I know I want the colors to be either turquoise or a soft blue, and I want brown to be the accent color, along with white antiqued furniture which I will do myself.

These are the headboard ideas I've came up with. I'm going to name the pictures of the headboards so you wonderful sweet ladies can give me your input please. I'm begging! I can't make up my mind on what type of headboard. I am leaning towards the shutter headboard since we have the plantation shutters to the top of each side of the bed. Our bed sits in between the two windows.

This is the only picture I've got of our room. Try to overlook Trucker and the grand babies and you can see the plantation shutters and where our bed sits. See how dark our room is? This is with all the lights on in the late evening. It's a dungeon in there.

Short picket fence

Fireplace mantel and pillow

Floating Pillow and shelf. I really really think this idea is cute and could be done easily.

Columns and hanging Bookshelf

Large shutter headboard (the one I am leaning towards)

Bead board

Fancy Scroll (of course we wouldn't have two, although as I'm getting older it is starting to look pretty good sometimes)

Birdhouse (this one looks like it might be tough to build)
Painted door

Tall picket fence

I love the way this bed has the drawers for storage underneath as well as the matching nightstands. I want Trucker to build our bed on a platform with the storage under it.

Ok is everyone still with me or have I bored you to death by now? I've narrowed my choices down for the bedding and these are the ones I really like. But do you think they are to dark? Wrong color? Do they look manly enough?

I really like this one but it's more of a teal green than blue.
1.

I really love the colors in this as well. More of a turquoise color and brown.
2.

Close up of 2.
I love this color and the shimmer. But maybe a little girlie for Trucker.
3.

Like this as well. 4.

I believe this is how we are going to do the walls. Where the paneling is now go over it with this wainscoting. Then at the top paint it either the blue or the brown. Probably the blue. I also love the striped nightstand.

This would be the icing on the cake for me. Painted to match the room of course!
This will definitely be a summer decorating job for me. As well will be doing it a little along. So ladies what do you think? Can I pull it off? We have the furniture we are going to use all except the headboard and storage underneath. I will be painting it myself and doing the glazing and antiquing, so this will save us a ton of money. Naturally we want to do this as frugally as possible. As said I've never took on a challenge like this before. Do you know of any other ways in which to save ourselves as much money as possible? We will be doing all the work ourselves as well.

Thanks ladies and now I need you to put your thinking caps on for me! Tell me what you think?

I know this is an uncompleted DIY but I am linking to:

Lady friend - you have a huge spring and summer ahead of you! What fun! I've wandered over here from Transformation Thursdays and your comment love - much appreciated. :-) Okay, I'm really liking these headboard ideas: floating pillow, mantel, taller picket fence and the shutters. ... alright, so I only narrowed it down a teensy bit! :-)Hope it helps!

T! You certainly have your work cut out for you! I like the pretty turquoise headboad that you think might be too feminine for Trucker. I also like the large shutter headboard too.

Post pics as you progress, I can't wait to see it! Xoxo!

Tresia, I am so sorry that you haven't been feeling well. I'm saying a prayer that you'll feel much better very soon. Ooooo, pretty inspiration! I LOVE the fireplace mantle headboard - always thought I'd try that somewhere in my house. Also love that white wainscotting on the walls. You are going to have such fun, and I can't wait to see how the work progresses. Take care of yourself. laurie

I like bedding #2 the best. For headboards, I like the door one, the beadboard one, and the shutter one. You certainly have your work cut out for you! I hope you feel better soon.

I like the first two beddings the best. I love all those headboard ideas and I think any of them would look wonderful. If you are doing the wainscotting/board and batten on the walls though I think I might keep the headboard more simple and in a contrasting color.

I really like that striped nightstand too. I was thinking of painting mine this weekend, so I will have to think about that.

Oh, I hope you feel better real soon! Just take it easy, relax and rest up!

As far as your choices, here is my favs:

Headboard: Fireplace mantel with pillow

Bedding: #4

Hope your surgery goes well and you're back in "DIYing" shape really fast.

I vote bedding 4 and the simple door headboard. Those are the colors I've chosen for my office re-do...great minds!!

Best plan of action would be to find your bedding and paint room accordingly.

Wait on the headboard until you are more settled in the room. It can wait for awhile.

Have you considered wood parquet instead of laminate? I have "pet" problems on and off (when they get old and such, and we've used wood parquet in 3 homes. In most cases it's cheaper than laminate. Plus, if you're laying it on concrete it acts as a great insulator.

Thank you for your comments about my "concealing the ugly.." I hope your surgery goes well, and you heal up quick. I am sending my thoughts your way.

As for your room, I think closing the room off permanently would be the best bed if you plan to stay at the house for a long time, and/or closing it off wont be a major effect the floor plan of the remaining part of the house.

Wow, that's a lot of decisions. To start with, I like the fireplace/pillow and painted door headboards. Please don't so the shelves. One nightmare and it may all come tumbling down ~ YIKES! I like the teal and brown. My fav was the one with the diamond pattern.

With that said, I hope you are feeling better and are enjoying your brief time looped up on pain killers.

I am not sure if you know about my new link party beginning Feb 2nd ~ Timeless Tuesday. The theme is all things classic. Here's the link so you may check it out.

I'd love to have you join the party!

Feel better!

Hello Treasia,

I am sorry you have not been feeling well and need to have surgery. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I just redid my home in the teal/turquoise and browns and am loving it. Still have a lot more touching up to do. As for the style, I like the pillow and shelf (stored that for future reference) and I also like the bead board. As for bedding, I like #’s 1 and 2. I also like # 3 and have stored that one for guest room ideas. I know that was not much help!

You have really chosen some great ideas and I can see why you are having a hard time narrowing them down!

Good luck! I cannot wait to see what you finally decide upon.

good luck. I've seen some of those wonderful inspirations. I think it is funny that we are at a loss until we finally do the 1st few things and then it seems to start to shape.

This will be quite a project but I know it will be beautiful when you finish. I would start with the walls and paint the paneling white or add the wainscoting and paint light blue above. I love the shutter bed but take a look at Flea market Trixie blog and her recent post on the headboard she made.Gorgeous! Best of luck to you and thanks for your sweet comment on my office.

Those are great choices! I like the shutter one and the one with two beds (I love the chandilers)! I would paint the paneling white (prime it first). Have fun! I'm going to be redoing my bedroom soon also.

I hope you feel better soon!

Hope you feel better soon! I love number 2 of the bedding also the wall treatment! If I weren't renting I would soooo do something like that!

First of all, wait till you are totally feelin' ok! Hope its soon! I just got finished (pretty much) w/my daughter's room and the #1 tip I have for redoing a bedroom is: CHOOSE YOUR BEDDING FIRST THEN BUILD AROUND THAT! I can't tell you what a hard time I had getting the bedding right AFTER I had chosen the curtains and colors... so thats my tip and Overstock is a great start to peruse whats out there- I just bought a beaut black and white duvet cover and sham set for 33.00! No joke, and its GORG! Good Luck and let us know how it turns out! ann @ housefinally.blogspot

I feel your pain with that room. I lived in a similar space for two years (my in law's basement) when my hubby was working on his degree. It was rough. Anyway, I like the shutter headboard or a door. You could eve make one large enough to cover one of the unwanted door ways? Second, I like bedding number 1 or 4, but do they compliment the powder blue chandelier and night stand? Lots of great choices to be made.

Hi Treasia! Sorry you're not feeling 100%...Warm wishes your way.
I LOVE the shutter idea, and the first and last bedding sets. Beeeeautiful! The tall panelling would be stunning too. Feel better first though...

If you are leaning toward the shutters, then go for it! They look great!! I like the second bedding option...very elegant but not too feminine. Go with your instincts and with what makes you happy. The important thing is to create a space that you love walking into each day.

I like #2 and #4 for the bedding. And I think the mantel or the shelf and pillow would be really pretty for a headboard. Thanks for stopping by and good luck with your project. Feel better soon !

Remodelaholic said...

I hope you are doing well.

I have to say I love the 5 panel door as a headboard, I have always wanted to do that. And I love the third option for bedding.

Good luck with which ever one you decide, just make sure it makes you both really happy, because that is what counts in the long run!

Thanks for joining the party, sorry it took me so long to respond, I like to take the weekends off!

You could do the striped night stand and then I would do a totally different one on the other side. Have the wainscoting on the bottom with the walls in the soft blue on top. I can not see your favorite picture but can see all the others and out of the rest my fav is the fireplace mantle. It adds depth and dimension,& a place for decorations. I think a curvy bed would fight against the stripes and wainscoting.
