Spiritual Sundays & Sunday Favorites

First off let me say "Good morning my blogland friends". Today here @ Stepp Into My World it's once again time for Spiritual Sunday and Sunday Favorites. One of my favorite posting days during the week.

I do hope you head over to Blogger Spirit and read the wonderful posts on Spiritual Sundays from the fabulous participants today. Or better yet, take part yourself. Just click the image button above.

One of my favorite quotes is this:

"The first duty of love is to listen."

Paul Tillich

This quote can be read and taken to heart in many different ways. The love between a mother and her child, the love between yourself and your spouse and so many more. I consider this the love between the Almighty Father and I.

Even then it can be taken in two ways. 1. Me listening to God and 2. God listening to me. I know that God listens to me each and every day. When I pray to him at various times during the day and when I simply talk to him throughout the course of the day. He listens to my every single word. But do we listen to him? That's the hard one isn't it? Learn to listen to God every day in every single thing you do. Not just during prayer but all the time.

God talks to us in so many different ways. He's in our heads and thoughts, he's in the trees that surround us, the birds that chirp, the sun that shines and the wind that blows. Take time to listen to God!

Sunday Favorites is hosted by the wonderful Chari @ Happy To Design. Everyone knows that most Sunday's are a time of rest, worship and families. So Chari came up with the fantastic idea to have a re-wind day in which we share a post from the past that was a favorite of ours. To read many more of these Sunday Favorites simply click the blog button above.

Today my post was first published on Wednesday, April 22, 09. Now when reading this post do please bear in mind that it was my very first ever DIY project. I rather think it turned out very cute though and still stands in my front yard. Now without further ado (don't that sound all fancy like?) here is the blast from the past.

A Day Of Work, Fun & Being Creative

Today was the most beautiful day of 2009 thus far here in Arkansas. Temperatures were in the 80's, the sun was shining bright, no rain (first time in a week) and light winds. A perfect day to work outdoors. And boy did I work outside today. Right now my body is making me pay for it. Legs and back aches, and my allergies, oh God I am now eating Benadryl's, but it was worth it.

I actually managed to get 6 rose bushes planted, 1 hydrangea bush and 2 wisteria vines planted as well. Plus I got 2 zucchini, 3 cucumbers, 6 tomato plants, and abo
ut 20 various pepper plants all planted.

I know that wisteria vines have to have something heavy and sturdy
to grow on and climb along and around. I had nothing. Although now they are barely one foot tall I know they grow fairly fast. Now mind you what with being all frugal and a money miser of late I didn't want to go and purchase anything for this. So I got creative with my thinking. I took a look around the yard and the house and this is what I came up with.

It's made from scraps of things I found around the house. The base of it Jerry had built from scrap lumber and made it to hold our rakes, hoe, and shovels. The top of the house is made from 2 plantation window shutters which covered one of our windows in our bedroom. We had removed them to put in a window air conditioner. The birdhouse I had purchased at Hobby Lobby and is one of many I have/had in my kitchen. The sign I found a couple of years ago at a junk sale and had tossed aside till I could figure out what I wanted to do with it. I repainted the sign in colors I liked to match the house today. When Jerry came in this evening from work he nailed it all together for me and we sat it over the tops of the two wisteria vines.

I think it's darling even if it's all homemade and thrown together.

Hi there!
You did a great job, I wonder how the wisteria looked climbing up and over that little house? Bet it was pretty! And the bird house is so cute!
I also appreciate the quote - hit me at just the right time. I will ponder it for awhile!
Have a great weekend, stop by sometime!

Lovely posts. You're right that God listens to us but I think we do not always listen to Him. Thank you for this reminder.
The bird house is darling. It's fun to create.
Blessings,
Charlotte

God gave us 2 ears for a reason and just one mouth :) I love that quote. It's so hard indeed to be still with the distractions around us. May we learn to listen more especially in His presence. Beautiful work of art you have there [bird house]...God bless. Have a great week ahead.

I think this is so cute! It reminds me of a song called Birdhouse In Your Soul by They Might Be Giants. I love the quote to. It is true, God is in everything. Inspiring daily. A good reminder to listen, thanks.
