Mirror Updating & Mantle Makeover

Whew let me tell you how busy I've been this week. I've gotten so much accomplished that has been placed on the back burner forever. I feel so good about things. Staying busy is wonderful again.

Let me tell you and show you some of the things I've been up to. Take this mirror for example. It has hung in my foyer for three years running. Nothing fancy about it, just a pretty white framed large mirror. It hung over a dresser there and looked nice but I wanted to incorporate it over my fireplace mantle. It would stick out like a sore thumb the way it looks now. Please ignore my fuzzy cute little pink house shoes. And of course the plaid men's pj bottoms I live in as well.



Well I got the idea of painting it and making it match into my living room decor. Our living room is done in burgundy and gold. I know, I know, this is out dated colors but we love them. So here's what it looked like during the process.



The first part I painted looked like this. Then my intentions was to paint the inside part (what's still white) with a metallic gold paint I had. It looked terrible then. The metallic gold I had on hand looked more like mustard exploded on to the frame. (Forgot to take a picture of that mess). So I ended up painting the inside part burgundy as well.

Now I know you see the touch ups I need to do and have now done. What's up with getting older and your eyesight failing?

Fireplace mantel for New Years.

I know that everyone says "do not line your treasures up", but I have not much of a choice in the matter. Our mantle is very narrow.

One of my gazillion birdhouses that was previously in the kitchen.


This jar (for lack of a better word) I made about 25 years ago in ceramic class. It has been sitting around collecting dust.

This grapevine wreath has dried roses from Valentine's past.

Sterling Silver ornaments that have been around for years packed in storage.

Rose floral swag purchased from Home Interiors once upon a blue moon.

A gift from a friend who made it.

I am so happy with the way the mirror and the mantle turned out. Amazing to me what you can do when you put your mind, spirit and brain into it.
