Light It Up

I believe I jinxed myself when posting my Monday Mosaic with all the spring/summer flowers. Why? The temps have now dropped to below 15 degrees and we are expecting snow, ice and a wintry mix before the end of this week. Can you say Brrrrrrr? My water is still frozen in the downstairs bathroom, but thankfully we have a bath upstairs. But I miss my shower though.

Today I'm taking part in Diane @ A Picture is Worth a 1,000 Words "Second Time Around Tuesday" as well as Kimm's @ Reinvented - "Trash to Treasure".

I haven't gone out thrifting in quite some time but have many found treasures here at home already. All just begging to be redone or rediscovered in new ways. This lamp is no exception. Given to me by my sister about three years ago and she received it from another friend. No one wanted this ugly lamp, including me. But I have used it in various parts of the house over the years. Granted not in any parts other people were really ever in! I had a brainstorm yesterday while painting one of my mirrors trim that I could possibly give this ugly fuggly lamp a makeover.

Here she is in all her ugly glory before.

The shape is still in fairly good shape along with the base. Shade is off white linen, but the base is wood and brass. I have never cared for brass and this brass was even scratched and tarnished very bad.

So my brainstorm was to see what I could do with a little paint. I was actually very surprised at how she turned out. Not gorgeous, by any stretch of the word, but much better looking. I'm not ashamed for her to be seen now.
I used a stencil I already had and simply held it up to the lamp shade and painted over it. I used a burgundy paint I also had on hand. After painting the shade I then painted the base, over the brass I used the same burgundy paint and the wood section I painted over in nutmeg. You can still see the wood grain through the nutmeg color now. These pictures are before she had time to dry so the burgundy looks really shiny but dried a different color.

Here is the finished lamp sitting on a end table in the living room.

Till we meet again,

Good morning Treasia, thank you for your visit yesterday as well as your sweet comment. It is so nice to meet you.

Your lamp is a work of crafty art. I love the change you made. Very clever and much nicer. Good job.

I was looking at your sidebar photos and enjoyed them so much. You have a wonderful family, including the master kitten of the house. We have a mistress poodle in our house. Or should I say, princess!!!

Have a wonderful day.
Hugs, Jeanne

It looks great now. You did a wonderful job with the stenciling. I like your mosaic, too. Spring can't be too far off, can it? Temps down to 4 tonight, and 4-6 inches of snow for us this week. Stay warm and safe. Rosie
